Transport Services

A complete suite of Transport services

Transport services for all needs

Whether you need to connect equipment in two redundant datacenters or reach suppliers or partners in sites you don’t have a presence in, most companies have a need for Transport capacity between datacenter facilities.

NL-ix offers Transport capacity services between all of Europe’s most important datacenters where it has a presence, and can use partners to connect other non-datacenter locations to an NL-ix covered datacenter.

The Transport services cover a complete suite of Transport services, supporting different Transport technologies (Wave DWDM, MPLS) in point-to-(multi)point and even any-to-any topologies, suitable for all different needs.

Transport Technologies

The decision when selecting a Transport technology depends on what you will use the Transport for, as Wave and MPLS (VLL/VPLS) each have their own unique characteristics.

  • Wave uses optical equipment to create a connection between two or more locations with a fixed path and predictable latency and is therefore the perfect solution to carry out storage synchronisation and data replication between datacenters. Wave doesn’t use switches in the NL-ix network and is completely transparent, allowing you to add VLANs as required. For resilience, path redundancy is recommended.

  • VLL /VPLS uses switching equipment to create a logical connection between two or more datacenters within the NL-ix network based on Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). Because a switching network is used, traffic is automatically rerouted across the underlying fiber infrastructure if any issues arise, providing path redundancy.

Transport Topologies

Point-to-Point is a direct connection between two ports in the network

Point-to-Multipoint connects a single location to multiple end-points.  For example, this could be a central site connected to smaller satellites, or a reseller that uses the NL-ix network to reach multiple end-users.  A single port can be used for the central connection

Any-to-any or Star topology allows to connects multiple ports on a single VLAN. This allows easy communication between all ports on the VLAN

Use Case:

Linking the most important datacenters in Europe

Whether you need to connect equipment in two redundant datacenters or reach suppliers or partners in sites you don’t have a presence in, most companies have a need for Transport capacity between datacenter facilities.

NL-ix offers Transport capacity services between the close to 100 neutral datacenters where it has a presence, and can use partners to connect other non-datacenter locations to an NL-ix covered datacenter.

We offer different Transport technologies (DWDM, MPLS, VLL and VPLS) in point-to-point and point to multi-point topologies, suitable for all different needs. No sure what you need or want to know more? Please don't hesitate to contact us!
