Turbocharge your Transit with the quality of Peering

The Best Blend Transit

NL-ix has used all of its interconnection expertise to select a unique blend from geographic Tier 1 and Tier 2 Transit specialists that guarantees the best routes to specific regions, resulting in the best possible Transit with a combination of high-performance National, European, American, Asian and Global feeds.

Transit from NL-ix is a redundant solution by default as using multiple transit providers over different ports guarantees redundancy. All delivered on a single port with dual connections to redundant routers. Based on our customers’ needs we constantly improve the mix of our selected partners, resulting in better quality routes. This makes Transit from NL-ix the best choice for your interconnection needs.

Key Features

  • Adaptive Transit Depending on your needs, you can select our Transit or Adaptive Transit solution. The main difference is in reach: just like Transit, Adaptive Transit offers direct connections to the best blend of Transit Providers. But Adaptive Transit also provides access to ~2.400 networks across Europe via single hop routes, typically covering ~80% of your traffic. Adaptive Transit does not require specific BGP knowledge and is therefor easy to setup and use whilst providing the benefit of delivering ~80% of your traffic over the NL-ix low latency network directly into the destination network (and therefor bypassing the public Internet).

  • One Port – Multiple services Combining Transit, Peering and layer 2 Transport services over one port enables you to save on the monthly cost of patch cables and ports in use. Running multiple services over a single port also means a single invoice and easier manageability. As NL-ix values low latency, we have build the Network Health Monitor, which feeds you live data on Round Trip Delay times on the NL-ix network across Europe, available on our website

  • Flat Rate & Metered Transit comes in many variations including lower speeds in both Flat Rate and Metered variants. The metered variant is also available in an uncommitted (0 Mbps) variant. This makes an ideal backup port with low fixed costs but a very competitive price per Mb.

  • Additional Services NL-ix offers a range of Transit, Transport, Peering and training services and we actively guides you through setup.

Use Case:

The symbiosis of Peering & Transit

If Internet is at the core of your business, the quality of your IP-connectivity is of ever growing importance. Still, many networks with typically less than 10 Gbps traffic only use one or two transit upstreams.

Adding Peering to this mix would improve the BGP routes, with fewer dependencies, more stability, more control and more backup, resulting in a better quality of service for your customers. But for most of these networks this step is just too big. The investment in an extra flat fee Peering port and negotiating Peering agreements with networks and setting up BGP routes, will just not pay-off.

Specifically for those networks we have created an integrated service that combines the best of the transit and peering worlds, providing routes with the quality of peering, plus the global reach of IP transit. We call it Adaptive Transit, the symbiosis of peering and transit.

Adaptive Transit extends your reach to ~2.400 Peering networks via single hop routes, typically covering 80% of your traffic. The remaining 20% of the traffic will be covered by a mix of tier one Transit providers. All delivered over one, easy to set up port.
