Voice Over IP Community
Voice Over IP (VOIP) is a general term for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet. Please consult Wikipedia for an extensive description of VOIP.
In the past years around the world several experimental SIP/ENUM/VOIP-exchanges became operational and the first VOIP
peering-traffic, although still in relative small volumes, started to flow over public Internet Exchanges.
Voice operators started exchanging their voice traffic in a on-net Community on a closed wallet basis, similar to
traditional Internet peering.
VoiceIX
NL-ix, as one of the largest European Internet Exchanges, took the initiative to facilitate Layer-2/3 exchange for the
VOIP community
in the Netherlands by introducing VoiceIX.
VoiceIX is unique in Europe since it is the first dedicated exchange where concurrent SIP/ENUM/VOIP communities and federations can provide voice peering and carrier services to their participants.
VoiceIX makes exchange of voice traffic more easily, more scaleable and much quicker, at lower cost and at higher quality.
Moreover participants, generally voice carriers or large voice access providers, can more professionally and cheaper interconnect, where all parties can benefit from a large base of already NL-ix connected companies in a open an neutral environment, available in many datacenters in the Netherlands.
