Band Market for Carriers

Internet Transit Market

Under the brand name "Band Market", NL-ix is introducing a virtual community where Carrier's can offer and deliver Internet transit bandwidth to ISP's in all NL-ix datacenters.

Cariers can connect to the Band Market on a 1.000 Mbit/s dot.1q (multiple VLAN's) trunk port. On this port the carrier can provide service to upto 1.000 ISP customers via dedicated VLAN's.

Sales Powertool

Market is a sales power-tool, opening up a huge market of small and mid-size ISP's and content providers. But Band Market is also a physical infrastructure for low-cost service delivery.

High reach service delivery

With a single high-speed physical connection to Band Market, a Carrier can offer transit bandwidth products at all NL-ix datacenters for one and the same flat rate port price.

Cost-effective from 1 Mbit/s to 20 Mbit/s

For carriers that have prospective customers on one or more datacenters where they cannot cost-effectively offer direct connections, Band Market can make the missing link.

With the central carrier port 10 dedicated VLAN's (10/100 Mbit/s) are included. So if a end-customer is already connected to NL-ix he can access the carrier for free. If an end-customer is not connected to NL-ix yet, he pay's 100 Euro per month for a dedicated port.

Central Carrier port costs are limited to a flat rate fee for a 1.000 Mbit/s port (10 VLAN's 10/100 Mbit/s included), regardless how many customers are connected or how much bandwidth is sold per customer.

Technology

Band Market connections are implemented as dedicated VLAN's over the NL-ix switching infrastructure. NL-ix uses Foundry switches and dark fiber interconnections. The VLAN's are concentrated on the central Carrier port via dot1.q VLAN trunking. Rate limiting can be implemented by the Carrier's router, or by limiting the customer Band Market port to 10 Mbit/s instead of the standard 100 Mbit/s port speed.

Participating Carriers get secured online access to Band Market's per customer traffic statistics. Additionally Carriers get SNMP access to the customer switch ports for monitoring and statistics collection purposes.
