The Internet Revealed...

The Internet Revealed...

Ever wanted to better understand this thing called Internet? Want to know wat an Internet Exchange is? How does "peering" make the Internet faster, better and cheaper?

Well, watch this video developed under supervision of the Euro-IX (the association of European Internet Exchanges):

The Internet Revealed: A film about IXPs

5th largest* Exchange in the world

5th largest* Exchange in the world

With 240+ members, local presence at 30+ local datacenters throughout the Netherlands and a #5 global position, the NL-ix Internet Exchange has rapidly developed into a major hub for both National and International peering traffic.

NL-ix offers more unique members (not to be found elsewhere) then any other IX in the world (only second to the MSK-IX). A large and unique membership is attractive for both Public and Private peering and a unique neutral marketplace for community specific traffic exchange.

*NL-ix is the #5 IX in the world in terms of #connected, source: PCH, Euro-IX, Wikipedia

AMS-IX Public Peering over NL-ix

AMS-IX Public Peering over NL-ix

AMS-IXAMS-IX and NL-ix have joined forces on nation-wide peering coverage. NL-ix now offers direct access to the AMS-IX Public Peering infrastructure (VLAN) over existing and new NL-ix Public Peering ports in any NL-ix datacenter. The portfolio includes 100 Mbit/s access, which AMS-IX does not offer directly anymore.

Participants will be regular AMS-IX members with full access to the member website, mailing list, meetings, etc. NL-ix however, will be the contractual, technical and financial interface.

Metro Wave - Transparant Capacity

Metro Wave - Transparant Capacity

Early 2009 NL-ix introduced its managed Metro Wave portfolio, as the fully transparant alternative for Metro Ethernet and more efficient and fully managed alternative for its Metro Fiber products.

Wavelengths are fully transparant (for dot1.q, MAC's, jumbo frames, etc.), proactively managed and monitored, extremely cost-efficient, delivered at grey short haul interfaces and available between all NL-ix datacenters at speeds from 100 Mbit/s upto 10 Gbit/s.

IPv4 running out, welcome free IPv6

IPv4 running out, welcome free IPv6

The global pool of IPv4 IP addresses is rapidly getting exhausted. 'X-day' for IANA is currently expected around July 01, 2011. Regional registries (RIR's) like RIPE are expected to run out of unallocated IPv4 space around one year later. The first Local Registries (LIR's) are expected to run out shortly thereafter.

The only durable solution for this exhaustion is migration to IPv6 addresses. To promote and stimulate this migration, in cooperation with Joint Transit, NL-ix offers free of charge 100 Mb IPv6 transit to all members until (at least) June 2010. Please contact us for details!
